Since opening in 2010, Chef/Partner Lee Ann Whippen has created a barbecue experience like none other by using the highest quality meats seasoned with house-made rubs while served in a Savannah-style dining room, imbued with Southern charm and comfort. 
The restaurant serves Whippen’s award-winning competition fare alongside regional favorites from the Carolinas, Texas, Missouri and Tennessee, which pair perfectly with the best selection of rare and exclusive bourbons in Chicago. Whether in the neighborhood or traveling to the city, a group of two or one of 50, Chicago q is the ideal space for any gathering or occasion.



* In addition to being our Chef Partner, Lee Ann Whippen is also a member of the Kansas City Barbecue Society, a KCBS Certified BBQ Judge, a former newspaper columnist, has 15 years in Hotel Catering Management, and more than 14 years cooking competitive BBQ.

*Chef Whippen founded Wood Chick’s BBQ Catering Company and BBQ Competition Team in Chesapeake, VA in 2002. In that short time, Wood Chick’s has won Multiple State BBQ Grand Championships and Awards in Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, most recently winning the 2009 Virginia Grand Champion. The Wood Chick’s BBQ Catering Company had grown two-fold between 2002 & 2004 and added BBQ vending at various Fairs and Festivals in VA, MD, and NC.

* She has appeared in numerous TV, Radio and Print stories revolving around BBQ including all three seasons of TLC’s “BBQPitmasters” series .

* Chef Whippen won a competition on Food Network’s “Bobby Flay’s Throwdown” for best BBQ (pulled pork). She was selected to be in his new cookbook “Bobby Flay’s Favorite Throwdowns” (sold in our restaurant for $27). She has also appeared in “Bobby Flay’s Road Show 2”, Travel Channel, Today Show, The 700 Club, People Magazine (article focused on Extreme BBQ), WAVY TV, the Joel Rubin Show, and the Virginia Pilot. Her Beef Brisket recipe appears in the “2006 James Beard Award Winning” cookbook “The New American Cooking” by Joan Nathan. In 2007 she was 1 of 18 Chefs in the Country selected to compete on Versus Network’s “National BBQ Championship Series” competing for $100,000.

*Chef Whippen won Grand Champion last year at the Safeway National Bbq Battle in June 2012.

*Chef Whippen won second place overall in BBQ at the 2013 World Food Competition in Las Vegas.
